Patang Sarees

Patang Sarees occupies a few units, 1031 to 1033, inside the Ambaji Market complex on Ring Road. It’s a bit of a maze in here with all the different sections of the Ambaji Textile Market overlapping. We have been working out of these stalls for a good stretch of time. The space is filled with sarees from wall to wall, mostly stacked in boxes because there’s never enough shelf space. We try to keep it organized, but on busy days, things end up all over the place. My cousin helps me run the counter while a couple of boys help with the packing and moving. It's a lot of folding and unfolding all day long. The air conditioning in the market struggles when it's really hot outside, so we just drink a lot of cold water and keep moving. We don't really do any big advertising or anything. People usually find us by word of mouth or by just walking past while they're shopping for their own stores. We get all kinds of customers, some who want to bargain for an hour and others who know exactly what they want in five minutes. It’s a lively environment, sometimes too loud with the carts rattling by, but we've gotten used to the noise. Ambaji Market is a hectic place to spend your day, but it’s where we belong.
