I am sitting here at L 28 in the Old Bombay Market, and it is one of those mornings where the tea hasn’t quite kicked in yet. Umarwada is always loud, you know? You can hear the rickshaws outside and people arguing over parking spaces constantly. Our shop isn't anything fancy, just a solid place with stacks of fabric piled up everywhere you look. It gets a bit dusty because of the main road, but that is just how it is here in this part of town. My father started things out years ago, and now we just keep the doors open every single day. We don’t have some big fancy website or a marketing team or anything like that. It is just me and a couple of guys making sure the orders get packed right and sent out. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit, so we sit on the wooden stools and wait for the generator to hum to life. The market has changed a lot over the years with more shops and more noise. We have stayed in this same spot though. People know where to find us near the corner. It's a lot of work, moving heavy boxes and checking meters of cloth, and my back usually hurts by five o'clock. But the work is steady. If you walk past, you will probably see me leaning against the counter or checking the ledger. We don't do anything special, just sell what we have and try to keep things moving along.
