Ashok Transformers Pvt. Ltd. has been operating out of Road No. 12 in Udyognagar for quite a while. Udhna is an old school industrial area, and you can tell by the way the buildings look and the way the streets are laid out. We’re right in the thick of it. The workshop is always full of copper wire and steel cores because that’s what we do—transformers. It’s heavy work, and it can be quite noisy when the cranes are moving things around the floor. We don't really have a front office with air conditioning or anything like that; we’re usually out where the action is, getting our hands dirty. The guys who work here have a lot of experience with the winding and the oil filling, and they don't need fancy manuals to know if something is right or wrong. We have a little spot out back where we take our breaks and talk about the local news or whatever is happening in the neighborhood. It’s a practical sort of place. We don't spend money on big signs or marketing campaigns because we’d rather just focus on the actual units we’re building. Sometimes the rain makes the road a bit of a mess, but we still manage to get the trucks in and out. It’s just a regular business day for us, focused on getting the transformers tested and ready for whoever needs them. We just keep our heads down and work.
