Anand Mangal

Anand Mangal is situated in the New Vrajnath Market on Road Number 4 in the G I D C area of Surat. Being in the industrial estate means we are surrounded by factories and large warehouses. The whole area smells like industry and there is a constant rumble of heavy trucks moving goods in and out. Our place is part of that busy world. We deal with textiles and materials that are common in this part of Surat. Inside, it is often a bit noisy because of the nearby machinery, but we are used to it. We spend our hours sorting through different batches of cloth and making sure the orders are ready for the people who come to collect them. The floor is concrete and the walls are just plain, as it is more of a working space than a showroom. We take our tea breaks sitting on the stacks of fabric or on the small stools near the entrance. The heat in G I D C can be really something in the summer months, so we keep the big shutters open to get whatever breeze we can from Road Number 4. It is a straightforward business where we focus on the work at hand. We don't have a lot of visitors who aren't there for business, so it is mostly just us and the transporters. We keep our hours consistent with the rest of the market and head home when the evening shift starts in the factories.
