Rehiansamba Farmer Producer Company Limited is based out of Rehian in the Jammu region. Sandeep Singh handles a lot of the coordination from his place there. We are a bunch of farmers from the surrounding countryside who got tired of the middleman taking most of the profit. We thought if we worked together as a single unit, we might have a better chance at surviving in today’s market. The land around here is good, but you really have to put in the hours to get anything out of it. We grow a variety of things depending on the month, and we all pitch in when it’s time to get the produce moved. It’s a local effort, and most of the people who belong to the company are just neighbors who have known each other for years. We don't have any interest in looking like a big corporation. Our focus is on the dirt and the crops. Sometimes we have long discussions about which fertilizer is better or how to fix a broken tractor without spending a fortune. It’s these small, practical things that take up most of our energy. We keep our records in a simple way and make sure everyone knows what is going on. It’s a group of people trying to look out for their families and keep the farming tradition alive in this part of Jammu and Kashmir. We hope for better days ahead.
