If you know anything about Sopore, you know we live for the fruit season. Our office is over at Bashir Ahmad Bhat’s place in Bomi Khaas, which is a pretty central spot for us here in Baramulla. We are just a bunch of local farmers who decided that forming Makhdoomi Fed Farmer Producer Company Limited was the right move to keep things moving properly. It gets really busy around here when the trees are full and everyone is rushing to get things packed and sent off. We spend a lot of time sitting together and figuring out the logistics, which can be a real headache some days. There is no big corporate ladder here, just people who have been working the soil for generations. We talk about the rain, the pests, and how the markets are looking in other towns. It’s a local effort through and through. We don't have any flashy slogans or a marketing team. We just have our hands and the land. Some of the younger guys are helping with the paperwork now, which is good because that stuff can get confusing. We are just trying to make sure that the hard work we put into the fields actually stays within the community here in Bomi Khaas. It’s honest work and we take it one day at a time, mostly just hoping for a good season and decent prices for everyone involved in the orchards this year.
