Chamb Farmer Producer Company Limited is a group of us living and farming around the Jammu area. Kuldeep Raj’s place in Pangtoot is what we use as our main spot for everything. Life out here in the village is simple but the work is never really finished. We formed this group because we wanted to have a bit more control over how our produce is handled once it leaves the farm. In this part of Jammu, specifically in the 181204 area, most people know each other. We grow whatever the land and the weather allow us to. It is not always easy work, especially when the water supply is low or bugs get into the crops. We don’t have a mission statement or any of those corporate phrases. We just have a lot of chores to get through. We spend our mornings out in the fields and our afternoons dealing with the paperwork that comes with being a registered producer company. It has been a bit of a learning process for us. We aren’t business experts, but we know our own land better than anyone. We keep things very direct. If there is a problem, we sit down and talk it over at Kuldeep’s house. We don’t have an office with air conditioning or fancy desks. We just have the open air and plenty of hard work.
