Pappe Di Hatti

We are over in Jawahar Nagar, right near the Gurudwara here in Srinagar. It’s a good location and we’ve been part of the community for a while. The shop is small and can get pretty crowded, especially on weekends or when there’s something going on at the Gurudwara. We mostly stick to the traditional stuff that people in Srinagar like. There’s no big mystery to how we run things. We show up early, get the stove going, and start the day’s work. Sometimes the weather gets cold and we have to keep the door shut, which makes it feel even smaller inside. We have a few tables but many people just take their food to go. The smells of the spices usually drift out onto the street. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know we are here. The staff is mostly family or people who feel like family. We have our regulars who come in and tell us about their day while we bag up their order. It’s a simple life running a food stall. We don’t aim for anything more than just being a reliable place for a meal. If the tea is hot and the food is ready, we’ve done our job for the day. Our address is Srinagar - 190008, and we’ve been at this spot long enough that most people don't even need to look it up anymore. It's just a regular part of the neighborhood for everyone.
