Northern Walnut Farmer Producer Company Limited

Our place is located in Lagama Market in Uri, right where Shahid Ul Islam has the unit. It is a bit of a drive to get out here but this is where the walnuts are. We spend most of our time at the Nambla Dream Wings unit just sorting through what the farmers bring in. There are a lot of walnut trees around this part of the country and we try to get as many farmers together as we can. It is a practical setup. We have the space to store things and enough room to check the nuts before they head out. Living and working in Uri means you get used to the mountain air and the way the market moves. Sometimes the roads are a bit rough but that is just how it is. We are not some big corporation with a tall building. We are just a group of people working out of a market stall and a small unit. The farmers come by throughout the week to drop off their loads. We sit down, have some tea, and get the business sorted. It is a lot of physical work, moving heavy sacks and making sure the storage is dry. We focus on the walnuts because that is what grows best here. It’s a simple life but it keeps us very busy during the peak season. Every year the market gets crowded and we just try to keep our heads down and get the sorting done properly before the winter snow starts.
