Up here in Shiv Nagar, we are doing things a bit differently than the grain farmers. We focus on fish. It’s a lot of watching the water levels and making sure the feed is right. Our place is on Lane No 3, right at House No 59A. It's not a massive factory; it's more of a local effort where a few of us get together to manage the tanks. Jammu can be a tough place for this kind of work because of the heat, but we make it work. We spend a lot of time cleaning out the filters and checking on the growth. Sometimes the pumps act up and we have to spend half the night fixing them, but that's part of the job. We aren't trying to be the biggest company in the world. We just want to make sure the fish we raise are healthy and that we can keep going for another season. Neighbors walk by and see us working all the time. It’s a hands-on kind of life. There’s no secret to it, just regular daily tasks that need to be done. We talk about the markets and the prices while we work. It’s better than sitting in an office all day, even if it gets messy. We started this because we wanted to do something for ourselves right here in the city. It’s a small group and we all know our roles.
