Chakshama Farmers Producer Company Limited is a local group we set up here in the Vijaypur area of Samba. Our central point is at Bishan Dass’s place in Chack, Chattka. If you know this part of Jammu, you know the summers get very hot and the work in the fields can be quite punishing. We are just regular farmers who realized that trying to buy supplies and sell our harvest alone was becoming a real struggle. By coming together, we can look out for each other. Some of us grow wheat, some do vegetables, but we all face the same issues with the markets and the costs of running a farm these days. We keep our operations very basic because we’d rather be outside than sitting behind a desk. There is no corporate ladder here, just neighbors and friends trying to make a living from the land. Sometimes the crops are good and sometimes the pests or the heat get the better of us. That’s just how it goes in Jammu and Kashmir. We don't have any flashy marketing or big promises to make. We just keep our heads down, work the soil, and try to ensure that the food we grow reaches people in a way that makes sense for us. It is a practical way to survive and hopefully give our kids a reason to stay on the land instead of moving away. It's about making sure our small community stays strong.
