St Marys School

Our school is located in Lower Chakar, which is part of the Boileauganj area in Shimla. If you’ve ever been to this part of town, you know it’s all about the slopes and the winding paths. The building is tucked away on a hillside, and you have to do a bit of climbing to get around. In the winter, it gets really cold, and we often have to clear some snow or deal with frozen pipes in the mornings. The classrooms are small and cozy, which is good when the wind starts whistling through the trees outside. We have a lot of monkeys around here, so we have to make sure the windows are shut tight and no food is left out. The staff is used to the Shimla weather and the daily walk up from the main road. We don’t have much in the way of modern luxuries, just the basic stuff like desks, chairs, and a small library. The kids come from all over the Chakar neighborhood, arriving in their thick woolly uniforms. It’s a very local feel, where the teachers know the parents and we all see each other at the market. We spend our days going through the curriculum and making sure the building stays in one piece despite the rain and the cold. It’s just a regular school doing its best in a beautiful but sometimes difficult mountain setting.
