Up here in Sarahan Bsr, the weather really dictates how our day goes. Being a Kendriya Vidyalaya in the Shimla area, we get some pretty cold mornings and lots of mist. The school building is what you’d expect, functional and painted in those standard colors. We have kids coming in from all over the local hills, some walking quite a distance. The playground is often damp from the clouds, but the students don't seem to mind much when they’re playing football. Inside, the classrooms have those old wooden desks that have been used for years. It’s a government school, so things are pretty straightforward. We follow the central board rules and keep a strict timetable. You can hear the morning assembly bells echoing across the valley. Teachers here have been around for a long time and know the families. It’s not a place with shiny new gadgets in every corner, but we have the basics covered. The staff room is usually a mess of papers and half-drunk cups of tea. We deal with power cuts and snow in the winter, which sometimes means we have to close up for a few days. It is just a regular school life for families living in this part of Himachal. Nothing too fancy, just kids learning their lessons and playing in the mountain air.
