Greenwood House School

Up here on Gumma Bhaghi Road, the air is definitely thinner and colder than in the plains. Greenwood House School sits in the Ratnari area of Shimla, and it feels a lot like a home because it’s a house school. The mornings often start with thick fog rolling over the hills, and we all come in wrapped in heavy sweaters and mufflers. It’s a quiet part of the Shimla district. You don't hear much besides the birds and the occasional truck on the road. Inside, the floors are sometimes cold, so we tell the kids to keep their shoes on. We have small classrooms that feel cozy when they are full of students. Because we are out in Ratnari, things move a bit slower than in the main city. We spend our time teaching and then maybe having a quick cup of hot tea during the break to stay warm. The windows look out over the mountains, which is nice, but we are usually too busy with the chalk and the lesson plans to look out much. Our furniture is mostly made of wood and looks a bit worn down from years of use. It’s a simple life for the teachers and the staff here. We handle the daily chores, keep the heaters going when it snows, and make sure the students have what they need for their lessons. It’s just how things are at the 171225 postcode.
