Himanis Bar & Restaurant

You’ll find us at number 48 on The Mall here in Shimla. We are right across from the Gatity Caterers. If you’ve walked along The Mall, you know how it gets with all the tourists and the locals out for a stroll. We’ve been here for a long time. The building has that old Shimla feel to it. Running a bar and restaurant means late nights and early mornings. I’m usually the one locking up after the last guest leaves. It can get quite cold in the winters, so we try to keep the place feeling cozy. We don't have any fancy marketing. Most people just walk in because they’re hungry or want a drink while they’re out. The kitchen can get a bit frantic when we have a full house. Sometimes a waiter gets an order wrong or we run out of a certain bottle, and we just have to apologize and fix it. We are just regular people working here. Many of us have lived in these hills our whole lives. We see the same faces year after year. It’s not a big chain restaurant. It’s just our place. We don't use any corporate talk. We just serve the food and the drinks and try to make sure everyone has a decent time. It’s hard work, but it’s what we do. We just keep the lights on and the glasses clean for whoever comes by.
