We are located inside the Ashiana Regency Hotel, which is right in the Secretariat area of Shimla. Being in Chotta Shimla means we are a bit away from the main tourist rush of the Mall Road, which some people actually prefer. Fern Restaurant is where we serve the guests staying at the hotel and anyone else who happens to be around the Secretariat. The weather up here in Shimla changes quickly, so we spend a lot of time making sure the dining room is warm and comfortable. It’s a practical space. We don’t have any grand decorations. We just have tables set up with a view of the hills if the mist isn't too thick. The staff here are mostly locals who know the area well. We get a lot of government officials coming in for a quick lunch because we are so close to their offices. Our days are shaped by the seasons; winters are quiet and cold, while the summers bring in the crowds looking for a break from the heat in the plains. We aren't trying to be a five-star luxury spot. We just want to serve a hot meal that reminds you of home. There’s a lot of cleaning and prepping that goes on behind the scenes that people don't see. We just keep at it, making sure the tea is hot and the food is ready when people walk in through the door.
