Our place is up in the hills, in Village Chak Kishorpo Deha. It is part of the Deha Theog area in the Shimla district. Himalayan Herbs & Spice (Opc) Private Limited is the name on our papers. Living and working in the mountains changes how you do things. Everything moves a bit slower, and you have to deal with the weather and the narrow roads. We focus on herbs and spices that grow around here. It is just a small operation, an OPC as they call it, so it is mostly just me and a couple of others helping out. We don’t have a big factory. We work out of the village, staying close to where the plants are harvested. It is honest work, and it keeps us busy throughout the seasons. Sometimes it’s hard to get things moved down to the bigger towns when the weather turns, but we manage. We don’t use any marketing tricks to sell what we have. We just tell people where it comes from and what it is. The air is fresh up here, and that helps when you are working with spices and herbs all day long. It is a simple life in Shimla, and we wouldn't have it any other way. We just do our best with what the land gives us each year. It is a quiet existence but we like it.
