The Bushahr Farmers Producer Company Limited is based in Vpo Deothi, which is up in the Rampur area of Shimla. Our address is 12/20, which is where we manage the business side of things. Most of the people involved here are from the surrounding villages. In these hills, farming is hard work because the land is steep and the weather can change in a minute. We formed this group because we wanted to have a collective voice when it came to selling our produce. In Rampur, we grow a variety of things, and getting them down the mountain to the bigger markets is always a challenge. We meet up in Deothi to talk about transport costs and who has the best crop this year. It is a very informal atmosphere. You will see people coming in with their muddy boots, just taking a break from the fields to check on company matters. We don't use any fancy language or try to act like we are big-time businessmen. We are just hill farmers who know that we are stronger when we work together. The Shimla winters can be tough and sometimes the roads are blocked, but we keep the company going through it all. It is about supporting each other and making sure our way of life stays viable for the next generation. We just take it day by day and hope for the best for our neighbors and families.
