Rayat Krushi Producer Company Limited is over in Kolewadi, which is in the Karad taluka of Satara. We operate out of Sachin Atmaram Patil’s place. Sachin is one of us, and his home serves as our home base for the company. Karad is a good area for farming because we have decent access to water most of the time. We started Rayat Krushi because we wanted to have a collective voice. In this business, if you are alone, you don't have much power. But together, we can buy supplies in bulk and get better deals. We are not corporate people. We wear our work clothes to our meetings and we talk about things like soil health and tractor repairs. There is no polished language in our office, just honest talk about the struggles and successes of the season. We don't have any big slogans. We just want to make sure the work we do in the fields pays off at the end of the month. We keep the administration side of things as simple as possible. Kolewadi is a small village, so everyone knows who we are and what we are doing. We are just a group of farmers who decided to take our future into our own hands. It’s a practical, local operation and that is exactly how we like it. We focus on the basics and help each other out whenever someone gets stuck.
