Mahankali Farmer Producer Company Limited works out of Gat No. 1758/129 in Kavathe Mahankal. It is a bit of a dry area around here, and the ground can be very hard. We set up the company because doing things alone wasn't working out for any of us. The location is just a spot on the map, really. We don't have a polished building with a lobby. It’s more like a shed and some space where we can store things. We spend a lot of time talking about water. In Kavathe Mahankal, water is always the main thing on everyone's mind. The company is just a way for us to pool our resources so we can buy things in bulk. We have a lot of meetings where we just sit on the ground or on some old benches and try to figure out the government schemes. Half the time the paperwork is too complicated for us to even understand. We don’t have any city people helping us. It’s just the local farmers. The dust gets everywhere, and the wind is always blowing across the open fields. We don’t have a lot of money for advertising. We just tell our neighbors what we are doing. It is a slow process and some days it feels like we aren't getting anywhere. But then the harvest comes and we get back to work. It’s just life in the village.
