Krushichhaya Farmers Producer Company Limited is basically run out of house number 200 in Sonawadi Bk. This is Shri Prakash Rajaram Kshirsagar’s place. It’s in the Phaltan taluka. Phaltan is a place where agriculture is the main thing everyone talks about. We started Krushichhaya because it’s hard to do everything alone when you are a small farmer. By having this company, we can pool our resources together. We aren’t some high-tech outfit. We are just a bunch of neighbors in Sonawadi. We meet at Prakash’s house and go over the accounts and plan for the next planting season. It’s very informal but we get the work done. The name Krushichhaya means something like the shadow or protection of agriculture, which I guess is what we try to provide for each other. We don't use any big words or marketing tricks. We just show up, do the work, and hope for a good harvest. Sometimes the markets are down and we have to figure out what to do next. That is when being a group really helps. We share the equipment and we share the knowledge we have about the land here in Satara district. It is a simple life and a simple business. We don't have a front desk or a secretary. If you need us, you just come to the house and ask for us. That is how we have always done things and it seems to work for us.
