Khalsa Model School is situated in Longowal, which is part of the Barnala district. We have a decent-sized building with several classrooms and a bit of a yard out front. The school has been part of this community for quite a while. We follow a standard routine. In the morning, the kids arrive, and you can hear them talking all the way down the street. We have a mix of younger and older students. The teachers are local people who have been with us for years. We don’t have a lot of extra money for fancy things, so we focus on the basics of teaching. The desks might be a bit scratched, and the paint might be peeling in a few spots, but it’s a functional place. We spend our days making sure the lessons are covered and the homework is checked. Longowal is a place where everyone knows each other, so the school feels very connected to the town. We often see parents at the market and talk about how things are going at the school. It’s a very informal way of doing things, but it works for us. We aren't looking to be the top school in the country, just a solid place for local kids to do their studies. That is what we have been doing, and that is what we will keep doing as long as the doors stay open for the local families.
