We’ve been here in Soni Bhawan for quite a while now, up on the second floor. Upper Bazar is always so crowded, and B T Road can be a real headache with the traffic, but we make it work. It’s just how things are in Ranchi. We started out small, mostly just doing food for local families who knew us. People come up the stairs and we talk about what they need for their upcoming weddings or parties. It gets really busy during the wedding season, almost non-stop cooking and packing. The kitchen is usually a mess of spices and big pots, which is how you know something good is happening. We don't have a big fancy office, just some chairs and a desk where we write down orders in our registers. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to use the lanterns, but the work doesn’t stop. We know most of the shopkeepers around here too. Dealing with suppliers in the market is a daily thing. We just focus on getting the food right so people don't complain. It's hard work, standing for hours, but seeing a plate come back empty is what keeps us going. We’ve seen this neighborhood change a lot over the years, but Soni Bhawan stays the same. If you’re around Upper Bazar, you’ll probably hear us before you see us. We’re just regular people trying to run a decent catering business here in the heart of the city.
