Jan Aahar

We’ve got our place, Jan Aahar, over on HB Road in the Kokar area of Ranchi. We are sitting right near Ram Lakhan Singh College and just across the street from the Electric Office. Being located where we are, we see a lot of students and office workers every single day. It’s a lively spot, and things usually start picking up around noon. The building itself is just a standard structure, nothing that really stands out if you’re just driving past. Inside, we keep things very simple with basic furniture and a few fans to keep the air moving. We aren’t a big operation by any means. It’s just a few of us in the back doing the cooking and one or two people out front handling the orders. Sometimes we run out of things if the crowd is bigger than we expected, which can be a bit frustrating, but we do our best. The street outside can get pretty jammed with bikes and cars, especially during the rainy season when the puddles get deep. We don't have any fancy mission statements or marketing plans. We just wake up, get the supplies from the market, and start the stove. Most of our regulars are people we see every week, so we’ve gotten to know their faces. It’s a decent way to earn a living, and we just try to keep the place going one day at a time without much fuss.
