Tanjore Art Gallery

We opened up Tanjore Art Gallery here in Khondhwa quite some time back. If you know the Sunshree Emerald building, we’re right there at A/5. It’s a quiet enough spot, pretty close to Rims International School, so we get a bit of the school traffic during the day. Inside, we mostly have the traditional paintings everyone expects when they hear the name Tanjore. There are gold leaf works hanging on almost every bit of wall space we have. It’s not a huge place, but we’ve managed to fit a lot in. Sometimes the lighting is a bit fussy, but it shows off the stones in the art well enough. Most days it’s just us here, rearranging the frames or dusting off the glass. People usually wander in because they saw the sign while heading somewhere else. We don’t have fancy catalogs or anything like that. If someone asks about a piece, we just tell them what we know about where it came from. The floor is tile and we keep a few chairs for anyone who wants to sit and look for a while. It gets bright in the afternoons when the sun hits the front. We’ve been in this part of Pune for a while now and the neighborhood has changed around us, but the gallery stays pretty much the same. It’s just a place for the art, really. Nothing more to it than that.
