Shabdankan Arts

Our workshop is located at Sr No. 480 in the Sumati Apartment, which is right near the old Shaniwar Wada area on Om Kareshwar Road. Being in Shaniwar Peth means we are surrounded by a lot of history and very narrow, busy streets. At Shabdankan Arts, we spend our time working on various creative projects, mostly involving lettering, signs, or traditional art styles. The room is usually filled with the smell of paint and ink. We don’t have a big storefront with glowing lights; it’s more of a working studio where things are a bit messy. You’ll find brushes soaking in jars, half-painted boards leaning against the furniture, and sketches scattered on the table. We often have to work around the noise of the temple bells and the local traffic outside. It’s a small space, so we have to be careful not to knock things over when we’re moving larger pieces. We don’t have a formal way of doing things. A customer walks in, we talk about what they need, and then we start sketching it out by hand. It’s a slow process sometimes, and our hands are often stained with different colors by the end of the day. We’ve lived and worked in this part of Pune for a long time, so we feel like we’re just another part of the neighborhood’s daily life, doing our small bit of art.
