Diwakar Dengle Art Gallery

You’ll find the gallery on the first floor of the Gurukrupa Building, which is right at Banaz Corner in Alkapuri Society. We are on Paud Road in Kothrud, directly opposite the Rajlaxmi Hotel. It’s a bit of a climb up the stairs, but it’s quieter once you get inside and away from the street noise. The walls are mostly covered in paintings, and there are always frames leaning against the baseboards waiting to be hung. We spend a lot of time adjusting the lights so they don't glare on the glass. It isn't a massive museum or anything, just a few rooms filled with art. There is usually a table cluttered with bubble wrap and tape because we are always packing things up or unboxing new arrivals. We have to be careful about the humidity, especially during the monsoon, so we keep an eye on the vents. Sometimes people wander in while they are waiting for their table at the hotel across the street. We don't mind. It’s nice to have some company. We spend our afternoons cleaning the glass or talking to the artists who drop by to check on their work. It’s a slow-paced environment compared to the rest of Kothrud. We drink a lot of tea and wait for the light to hit the paintings just right. It’s just a simple place for people to look at some color.
