Sri Devi White Ice

Our location is 530, Vazhudavoor Road. It is a long road and we have been here for a while now. We focus on making what people call white ice, which is just the regular blocks you see for cooling down drinks or food. The building is a bit tucked back, but the delivery trucks know the way. We spend the whole day monitoring the freezing cycles. It’s not a complicated business, but you have to stay on top of it or the ice won't come out right. There is a lot of heavy lifting involved and we are always wearing rubber boots to stay dry. The air inside the factory is always a bit foggy. We get a lot of locals coming in for smaller amounts, and then we have the bigger deliveries that go out to the shops. Vazhudavoor Road can get pretty busy with traffic, so we try to get our loading done before the afternoon rush gets too bad. We don’t use any fancy filters or anything, just clean water and the old-fashioned freezing method. Sometimes the machines act up and we have to spend the whole afternoon fixing a pipe or a valve. That’s just part of the day. We are just a group of people working together to make sure there’s enough ice for everyone who stops by. It’s a regular job for us and it keeps us moving.
