Le Kawa

We are over on Aurobindo Street, right at number 35. If you know Pondicherry, you know it gets pretty humid, and being near the Mission Street cutting means there is always noise from the scooters and people walking past. It's a busy corner of the town, really. Our spot isn't anything too flashy, just a place that’s been around and we spend most of our day keeping things tidy and making sure everything is ready for whoever walks through the door. Some days it’s quiet and we just watch the traffic, but other times it’s a bit of a madhouse with tourists lost looking for the ashram or the beach. We don’t really do big speeches about what we are. It’s just us here. The building has its quirks, like the way the light hits the front in the afternoon or how the dust seems to find its way in no matter how much we sweep. We’ve got the usual routine, opening up early when the air is still a bit cool and closing up after the sun has gone down. It’s a job like any other, but we like the neighborhood. You see the same faces every morning, people going to work or the market nearby. We just stay focused on the tasks at hand, making sure the floors are done and the counters are clean. It’s practical work for practical people, and that’s how we like it.
