Sishak Foundation

You can find Sishak Foundation over at Suhil Kumar Sharma’s place in Mohimamganj. We are in Ward No 8, which is part of the Ushahari block, right near Balu Ghat. Being near the river means things can get interesting during the monsoon, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. Our setup is pretty basic. We use a couple of rooms to keep our things and meet up. It’s not a formal office with a receptionist or anything like that. If someone needs us, they usually just come to the door and knock. We spend a lot of time working on local issues in the block. It’s mostly just a few of us who grew up around here and wanted to do something useful. We don't have big speeches or glossy brochures to give out. We just talk to people and see where we can help. Sometimes the power goes out, and we have to work by candlelight, but we don't mind too much. It’s just how it is in this part of the country. We keep our records in some old ledgers and try to stay on top of the paperwork when we can. It’s a lot of work for a small group, but we stay at it because it feels like the right thing to do. We don't have a website or anything fancy; we just rely on people knowing who we are in the community.
