Lokkaaj Foundation

Lokkaaj Foundation is situated in the village of Bikrampur, which is in the Begusarai district of Bihar. We operate out of Gauri Shankar Singh’s place. If you know the Bikrampur post office area, we aren’t too far from there. It’s a very local operation, rooted in the village life we have here in Begusarai. We don’t really look at ourselves as a big organization. We’re more like a group of neighbors who wanted to get together and do something for our village. The foundation is a way for us to organize those efforts. We deal with the kind of problems you only really understand if you live in a village like ours. It might be about the local fields, the water, or just helping someone with their paperwork. We aren't polished and we don't have a big office staff. It’s mostly just Gauri and a few others putting in the time. Sometimes we meet under the trees or just on someone’s porch to talk about what needs to be done next. It’s a simple way to live and a simple way to work. We like the fact that people can just walk up to us and start a conversation. There’s no red tape here. Begusarai is a big place, but Bikrampur feels like home, and that’s where our focus stays. We just want to keep things going for the people who live here alongside us. It’s honest work for honest people in our village.
