First We Care Foundation

You can find us over in Karakat village. We are working out of Sri Birendra Singh’s house, which is a familiar spot for most of the people living in the Karakat block. We chose the name First We Care Foundation because it felt right for what we are doing. In a village like this, you see a lot of people who feel like nobody is looking out for them. We wanted to be the ones who actually pay attention. We don't have a big staff or a fancy office with a sign out front. It’s more about being part of the community and showing up when things are hard. Whether it’s helping an old person get to a clinic or talking to the younger ones about staying in school, we just try to be there. Life in the village is simple but it has its own sets of problems that people in the cities don't always understand. We’ve lived here all our lives, so we get it. We drink tea with our neighbors and listen to what’s going on. That’s how we decide what needs to be done each week. It’s not some big plan we wrote down in a book. It’s just reacting to what our neighbors need at the moment. We are just a small group of folks in Karakat trying to look after one another as best as we can without making any big fuss about it.
