Captain Nishad Foundation

Up at Prem Niwas in Hathsarganj, you’ll find the Captain Nishad Foundation. It’s actually Ajay Nishad’s house where we’ve set up our daily workspace. Using a home as an office makes things feel a lot more personal and less like a cold business. We don’t have a formal front desk or anything like that. You just walk in and someone will usually be there to help you out. Hathsarganj is a place where people talk to each other, so news about what we’re doing usually travels by word of mouth rather than advertisements. We have a few rooms dedicated to the foundation’s activities. There’s usually a pot of tea going and some papers spread out over the table if the main desk is full. It’s a little messy at times, with boxes of supplies or old records tucked into corners, but we know where everything is. We don't try to look like a big city corporation. We’re just local people doing what we can from a house in the neighborhood. Some days are slow and we just sit around catching up on filing. Other days, the house is full of people and it gets quite loud. We like the energy of it. It’s just a practical way to run a foundation without all the extra costs of a commercial building. We’re just here in Prem Niwas, keeping things simple and working through our to-do lists without any fuss or polished marketing.
