We are out in Jhajha block, specifically in the village area of Tola-Mahapur. Our foundation is based at Dinesh Pd Mathuri’s place. Mahapur is one of those places where everyone knows everyone else. It is a rural setting, so things move a bit slower than they do in the big towns. Dinesh handles a lot of the coordination from here. The office is just a part of the house really, nothing fancy at all. We have some wooden benches and a table where we keep the records. Sometimes the village meetings happen right outside in the shade. It gets quite dusty when the wind picks up, but we are used to it. Jhajha is a quiet block for the most part. We do not have a big marketing budget or a website with lots of photos. We just write things down in ledgers and talk to the neighbors. If someone needs something, they just walk over to Mahapur and find us. We do not have set office hours like a bank; if the lights are on and someone is home, we are basically open for business. It is a very simple life here. We focus on the local panchayat issues and try to keep things moving forward for the village. It is just us and the local community trying to make things work with what we have. Sometimes that is enough to get by.
