Jagrutikisan Samriddhi Producer Company Limited is situated right near the railway gate at Johad Ki Dhani. We use the space at the home of Jagdish Prasad Meel’s wife. It is a busy little spot because of the trains passing by all the time. You can hear the whistle and the rumble while we are trying to count bags or look over our books. The location is pretty easy for people to find since the railway gate is a major landmark for everyone around here. We spend a lot of time in the yard or the front room, just talking through what needs to get done for the next season. The dust from the road and the tracks is just a part of our daily life. We started this because we wanted a way for the folks in Johad Ki Dhani to have a place to organize their goods. It is nothing fancy, just a few chairs and a table where we keep our records and notebooks. When the gate is closed, there is always a line of tractors and bikes waiting, and sometimes people just hop off to say hello or ask about prices. It feels like the middle of the village in a way. We do not have a big staff, just a few of us who live nearby and care about how the farming is going. It is honest work, and being right there by the gate keeps us connected.
