Sahu Anaj is located on Mandia Road. It’s a busy road with a lot of traffic, so there is always a layer of road dust on the front step. We spend a lot of time sweeping it away. Our business is focused on grain. We have large piles of it sometimes, and other times it's all tucked away in jute bags. The building is old and the walls are thick, which helps keep it a bit cooler in the summer months. We don't have an air conditioner, just a big ceiling fan that wobbles a little when it’s on high. Most of our customers are locals who live nearby or people passing through on their way to other parts of town. We don't use any high-tech equipment, just a basic scale and our hands. The work is repetitive. You lift a bag, you weigh it, you move it. My hands are rough from handling the sacks all day. We keep a small notebook for our accounts and we try to stay on top of the paperwork, though it sometimes piles up on the desk. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we know how to do. We’ve been on Mandia Road for a long time and we don’t plan on going anywhere else. It’s just a normal part of the community.
