Sri Vinayaka Vegetable Nursery

Working with plants means our hands are rarely clean at the end of the day. Being located at the old Sabji Mandi on Mandia Road, we are right in the thick of the morning chaos. By five or six in the morning, the whole area is buzzing with trucks and people shouting as they move produce around. We are at number 59, a spot we have called home for many years. The nursery is filled with rows of green, and the smell of wet earth is always hanging in the air. It is a nice change from the dusty road just outside our gate. We spend most of our time watering the plants and checking on the new shoots. It isn't a glamorous job by any means, and the sun can be really harsh during the summer months. We usually wear old clothes because there is no point in trying to stay tidy when you are dealing with soil and manure all day long. Some of our customers have been coming to us since they were children, and now they bring their own families to buy plants. We don't have a fancy showroom or any big marketing displays. It is just a yard with a lot of pots and some shade netting to keep the plants from burning up. Sometimes a stray dog wanders in to sleep in the shade under the tables, and we just let it stay there. It is a simple life tied to the seasons and the weather.
