V S Granite

We’ve been running V S Granite at 89-72, Main Road in Martur for a good while. Being on the main road means we see a lot of people passing by every day. Some stop to chat, some are just passing through. Our yard isn't the biggest you'll ever see, but we manage to fit quite a bit of stone in there if we stack it just right. It’s a bit of a puzzle sometimes trying to find room for a new shipment. We spend a lot of time moving things around with the crane. The weather affects us a lot; when it rains heavily, the ground gets soft and it’s much harder to move the heavy stuff safely. When it’s hot, the stone gets almost too warm to touch with bare hands. We don’t bother with big signs or loud advertisements around town. Most of our work comes from people who just know we’re here on the road. We’re just a few people trying to make a living with stone. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to sit around and wait for it to come back so we can finish a cut. That’s just how it is in Martur. We usually have some coffee or tea and talk about the news until the machines start up again. It’s not a glamorous job, but we like being part of the local scene. We just focus on the slabs and getting them loaded onto the trucks.
