Prashant Traders

Our business, Prashant Traders, is at C 2/29 in the Anthony Domnic Source Chawl. We are in Vidya Vihar West. It’s a typical chawl setup, so space is always a bit tight. We have been here for many years. Everyone knows everyone else in this chawl. We have our stock piled up against the walls in the main room. It’s mostly just trading goods, so there’s a lot of moving boxes and checking lists. We don't have a fancy storefront with big glass windows or a sign. It's just a doorway that stays open during the day. People walk by and wave. It’s a very local way of doing business. Vidya Vihar is always buzzing with activity and noise. We are used to the small space and the crowded lanes by now. We keep our records in big ledgers. It’s an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for us. Sometimes the cat from next door comes in and sits on the counter. We don't mind the company. Work starts early and we stay until the sun goes down. There isn't any air conditioning, just the breeze from the door and a small ceiling fan that wobbles a bit. We just handle the orders as they come in. It’s honest work. We aren't trying to expand into some big corporation. We are happy right here in the chawl where we know our neighbors. Rainwater sometimes leaks near the back door, so we have to move stuff.
