Our shop is at No. 23/ B, specifically Shop No. 6 on Nagdevi X Lane. If you have ever been to this part of Mumbai, you know how crowded it gets. The lane is narrow and there are shops squeezed in everywhere you look. We have been operating out of this small space for a long time. Most of the day is just spent talking to people who walk in looking for specific hardware or tools. It’s a lot of shelf work, reaching for boxes and making sure we have what people need. Nagdevi is a tough place to work because of the noise and the constant movement of handcarts. You have to be quick or you get in someone's way. We open up early because that’s when the regulars start coming in. It’s not the kind of place where you sit around and drink tea all day. There is always a list of things to find or an order to put together for a local contractor. Shop No. 6 is tucked away but we make it work. The walls are lined with all sorts of items we’ve gathered over the years. Sometimes it’s hard to find things even for us, but we usually know where everything sits. The air is always a bit dusty from the street outside. We just keep the door open and wait for the next person to come through with a sample of something they need to match.
