R.K.Laxman Foundation

R.K.Laxman Foundation is up on the second floor of a building on Desai Road, Plot 69 in Anand Vihar. This is Cumballa Hill, so it’s a bit of an older, more established part of town. The building has that classic feel to it, with heavy doors and a bit of a musty smell in the hallways when it rains. We are trying to keep a certain spirit alive here, focusing on things that matter to the community and the arts, though it’s mostly just administrative work most days. We have a lot of old books and papers stacked up in the corners. It’s not the most organized place, but we know where everything is. Our desks are a bit mismatched, and the windows don’t always stay open without a wooden block to hold them up. We spend a lot of time answering emails and talking to people who remember the history of this area. It’s a quiet office for the most part, except for the sounds of traffic coming up from the road below. We don't have big signs outside; you kind of have to know where you're going to find us. We like it that way because it keeps the work focused on the people who actually care about what we’re doing. It’s a small group of us here, and we just handle things as they come, one project after another. It’s slow work, but it’s honest and it keeps us connected to the neighborhood.
