Azmi Charitable Trust

Azmi Charitable Trust is based at Azmi House, right at Furqaniya Chowk. We are in Kamla Raman Nagar, which is part of the Govandi area in Mumbai, zip code 400 043. The house is usually pretty busy because it’s a central spot in the neighborhood. People are always coming and going near the chowk. We aren't a big, cold organization. We are just a family and a few friends who wanted to do something good for the people living around us. It’s a very local thing. We don’t have a lot of fancy staff or a big board of directors. We just sit around in the house and talk about who needs help and how we can get it to them. Sometimes it’s about food, sometimes it’s about helping a neighbor with a bill, or just giving someone some decent advice. It’s real, everyday life here in Govandi. We don’t put on airs or pretend to be something we aren't. We know the struggles people face here because we face them too. The office—if you can call it that—is just a room in the house where we keep our files. It’s a bit crowded and noisy with the traffic outside, but it feels like home. We’ve been here for a long time and we plan on staying. We just take things one day at a time and try to be useful to the folks on our street.
