Bharat Seva Sadan Trust

The trust is located near Ranjit Studio, at number 18-A on Dada Saheb Phalke Road in Dadar East. This is a part of Mumbai that never really sleeps. Being so close to the studio means there’s always something happening on the street. Our building is a bit tucked away, but once you find 18-A, you’ll see the sign for Bharat Seva Sadan. It’s an old structure, typical for Dadar, with high ceilings and heavy doors. We have a few rooms where we handle our daily business. It’s mostly paperwork and meeting with people who come in looking for assistance or wanting to contribute to the trust. The noise from the traffic on Phalke Road is constant, but we’ve grown used to it over the years. Inside, it’s a bit more orderly. We have some old wooden cupboards filled with files and some benches for people to wait on. We don’t have fancy air conditioning, just the ceiling fans that have been there since forever. The staff is just a few of us who have been with the trust for a long time. We know the regulars by name and we know the tea seller around the corner even better. It’s a busy life here, but we try to keep things grounded and focused on the work at hand. No one here is looking for fame; we just want to keep the trust going. The lights sometimes flicker when the heavy machinery is running nearby.
