Akhil Welfare Trust For The Physically Handicapped

Our office is located at B2/6 in the Hari Om Apartments. We are right on S.V. Road in Borivali West. It’s a busy part of Mumbai, so there is always a lot of noise from the traffic and the trains nearby. The Akhil Welfare Trust for the Physically Handicapped has been operating from this apartment for quite some time. It is a residential building, so it feels very much like a home rather than a cold office. People come in and out throughout the day. We have some chairs set up in the main room for people to wait. S.V. Road is a main stretch, so getting here is pretty easy for most folks, even if the traffic is bad. We deal with people who have physical handicaps, so we try to make things as simple as possible when they visit. We aren't a big international organization with millions of dollars. We are just a local trust trying to help out where we can. Most of the people working here live in the suburb or close by. We know the struggles of getting around the city. We spend a lot of time on the phone or talking to people who walk in. It’s honest work and we don't try to sugarcoat things. We just do our best with what we have in this small apartment. The fans are always on because it gets quite stuffy, but the atmosphere is usually friendly and calm despite the city chaos outside. We are just here to help our fellow citizens as best as we can.
