Proinnovate Upcycling Foundation

We are based over at G/4 in the Shree Laxmi Woolen Mills Estate in Mahalaxmi. This is an old mill area of Mumbai that has a lot of history to it. You can still see the old structures around while new buildings go up nearby. Proinnovate Upcycling Foundation is what we call ourselves, mostly because we spend our time thinking about how to reuse things that others throw away. The estate is a bit of a maze if you have not been here before. Our space is practical and full of different materials we have collected. It is not a very clean or sterile environment because upcycling is messy work. We have tools laying around and boxes stacked up in the corners. The air in Mahalaxmi always feels a bit heavy with the city humidity, but we keep the fans going. We are not a big organization with a lot of hierarchy. It is just a few of us who care about waste and how to fix it. We work long hours sometimes, especially when a new idea comes up. There is a lot of trial and error in what we do. People come by to drop off old stuff or just to see what we are making. It is a nice community of makers and workers here in the mill estate. We just take it one day at a time and try to make something useful out of the scraps.
