You can find Art India on the first floor of Chandra Mahal at Plot No 241. Being on the first floor means we have to carry everything up and down a fairly narrow staircase. It’s a bit of a chore, especially with heavy boxes, but it keeps us moving. The space inside is much brighter than you’d expect because of the large windows facing the street. We do a lot of our work on long tables that take up most of the main room. It’s a mix of different things going on—some people are cutting materials, others are packing items into boxes. It’s not as quiet as an office, but it’s not as loud as a machine shop either. There’s a constant hum of activity throughout the day. The walls are mostly bare, except for some old calendars and a few samples of things we’ve made over the years. We don't have a showroom or a fancy display. If you come to see us, you’ll just see us in the middle of our daily routine. The building itself is an older one, so it has some character, like the creaky floors and the heavy wooden doors. We’ve been in Chandra Mahal for a while now and we like the location. It’s easy for people to find once they know which building it is. We just focus on our work and try to keep things orderly.
