I work out of my place at B-703 in Ashwanthnagar, which is in Kandivali East. The building is right on the Sanjay Nagar Main Road, so it is quite easy to find if you are coming from the station or the highway. It is a residential area, but since I am on the main road, there is always the sound of rickshaws and buses going past. Living and working in the same spot means things are a bit informal. My desk is near the window where I can see the traffic flow on Sanjay Nagar road. Ashwanthnagar is a decent neighborhood with a lot of families, and it feels very safe and lived-in. I don't have a storefront or a big sign outside. It's just a regular apartment where I handle my business. Most of the time, I am just at my computer or on the phone. Sometimes the neighbors’ kids are playing in the hallway or you can smell someone’s lunch being cooked next door. It’s a very normal, everyday kind of environment. I like being in Kandivali East because everything you need is just a short walk away, from the grocery stores to the small tea stalls on the corner. It’s not a polished business park, it’s just a home office where the work gets done between the usual daily routines of a housing society. I’ve been in this building for a while now, so I know the watchmen and the people downstairs.
