Pashupati Arts

We are located in Florence House, which is an old building on Merewether Road. It’s right behind the Taj in Colaba. The area is always full of tourists and people walking around looking for the sea. Inside our space, it’s a different story. We have a lot of art and traditional items squeezed into the rooms. The walls are thick and it stays cool even when it’s hot outside. We spend our days talking to people who wander in and looking after the inventory. Some pieces have been here a while and others go out the door fast. It’s hard to predict what people will like. We don’t have a big marketing team or anything like that. It is just a few of us making sure the dust doesn't settle too much on the statues. Sometimes the electricity acts up because the wiring is old, but we get it fixed eventually. We like being in this part of town because of the history and the old-world feel. There’s always something happening on the street outside. We open up in the morning and stay until the sun goes down. It’s a steady life. Most of our time goes into checking the details on the new arrivals. We aren't trying to be the biggest gallery in Mumbai, just a place that stays open and keeps things interesting for those who visit. It’s a good way to live.
