We are located over in Dharavi, Punagam, specifically at 206 2 B. The National Art Centre isn't some high-end gallery with white walls and soft music. It’s more of a workshop where things actually get made. There’s usually paint on the floor and scraps of canvas or paper tucked into every corner. It’s a bit crowded, and sometimes it smells like turpentine or wet clay, but that’s just how it is. We have people from the neighborhood coming in all the time to see what’s being worked on. It’s a busy part of town, so there’s always noise coming in from the street—horns honking and people shouting. We don’t mind the racket; it kind of keeps us energized. The lighting isn't perfect, just a few bright bulbs hanging from the ceiling, but we make it work. Most of us who spend time here have been doing this for years, and we don't care much about making things look polished for visitors. We just like the process of creating stuff. Sometimes the tea lady stops by and we all take a break on the plastic stools outside the door. It’s a messy, creative, and very real place to be. We don't have a big marketing plan or anything. We just open the doors in the morning, pick up a brush or a tool, and see what happens by the time we close up for the night.
