Down in Govandi, specifically in the Katraj Dhankawadi area near the Municipal Hospital, you will find our little art workshop. We have been here at 5/U/3 for a while, surrounded by the daily hustle of the hospital visitors and local residents. Our space is usually covered in a bit of dust from the materials we use to make our pieces. It is a messy process, but that is how art happens. We work with our hands mostly, shaping things and painting details. It is quiet work in a noisy neighborhood. Sometimes kids from the nearby houses stop by to see what we are making. We don’t have a big gallery or bright lights; it is just a workshop where things get built. The shelves are packed with half-finished projects and jars of supplies. We often work late into the evening when it is a bit cooler outside. Being near the hospital means there are always people around, which makes the day go by faster. We focus on the craft itself rather than trying to look professional. Each piece takes time, and we don’t like to rush things if we can help it. It is just us doing what we know how to do, day in and day out. The floor is usually messy by noon, but we clean up before heading home. It is a simple life centered around making things. That is just how we spend our time here.
